Matter of fact, the COMMERCIAL ENTITY known as the Townsville “City Council” NEVER sought nor obtained the expressed permission of ANY ratepayers to levy ILLEGAL taxes against them in the form of “rates”.
So why start now?
The flip side is that ‘smart cities’ means ubiquitous surveillance. More cameras on telegraph poles and traffic lights, licence plate readers, drones, universal store and street security cameras, smart electricity meters that can be regulated or turned off at the whim of governments, car travel that can be monitored and restricted (15-minute cities) ostensibly to save the planet etc. People will be subject to facial recognition software and artificial intelligence-powered programs that can track them by their biometrics, clothing, behaviour and travel. The very same mass surveillance technologies were used during Covid to stifle dissent, persecute activists and harass dissenting voices. Anyone who is perceived as a potential threat to government policies will be surveilled. Trudea’s Canada is an example where truck drivers peacefully protesting against Covid-19 vaccine mandates, had their bank accounts frozen, trucks seized, corporate accounts frozen and vehicle insurance suspended rendering them unable to buy food, pay mortgages, rent etc. 1984 is here!
If you drive through Townsville city centre you will find that every second shop is up for lease. The youth crime is out of control with them now intimidating the police to the point that the police take refuge at their station being attacked by 10 year olds. Jenny hill and our state premier ignore what is taking place, promising some never land miracle cure when parliament opens.As for tourism Townsville is a garrison city created and funded by the military its offers little if nothing for tourists.it is a pass through destination for travelers heading to cairns or the cape. So when it comes to smart cities Townsville is not in the running however when it comes to trial runs for greater things by a corrupt government then test it on the idiots in Townsville.
It’s a sad reflection of a once beautiful city now destroyed by beureaucracy, poor governance and political self greed for those who are meant to serve the people.
