from Pastor Mel
Have you found people who aggressively proclaim themselves to be atheists to be angry people? Is it because they are denying something inherently human within themselves? Their mind can rationalize all sorts of reasons why God doesn’t exist, but their heart is saying something else.
In fact there’s a passage in the Bible, Psalm 14:1, that very bluntly addresses the issue of stubborn unbelief: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”
So the atheist, for whatever reason, willfully overrides that deep, spiritual, believing-beyond-what-is-known tendency in the heart of every human being made in the image of God. The atheist makes unbelief his code to live by.
But he’s foolish because there are many real benefits in believing in God and following his code. Yes, there are deep challenges too.
The atheist is also foolish because he denies the reality of God in all of human history. The Bible, and especially the New Testament, is not just another religious fairytale like the gods of Greece. It’s actual history involving real places and real people who witnessed the Son of God, the Messiah, the Christ, doing his miracles on earth. It’s a message that has influenced the entire globe at all levels from personal human experience to how societies operate.
“Ah,” the atheist says, “but now we have science!” OMG bro, wake up! Science is a mere tool to help us understand how things which already exist work e.g. the biology, chemistry and physics of nature. And the better we get at science, the more it shows us the incredible wonders of life like the DNA molecule that performs a multitude of intelligent, highly organised operations that make a mockery of the idea that life evolved at a cellular level by random, chance occurrences.
If you have problems understanding the God issue, be honest and be agnostic i.e. admit that you don’t know there is a God. But don’t be foolish and ignore the spiritual realm and what the Bible says about life and the universe. Actually, it’s not hard to find God if you go the mediator, Jesus. The third person of the trinity, the Holy Spirit, will help you find without having to see. So seek, and you will find.
Until next time…
Good article – funny comments. The Nuns believed in beating the hell out of us to send us to heaven. That didn’t go over well but I kept the faith. I grew up with mostly atheists. They just laughed at me and said, “you’re just praying to the wall Pete.” Many years have gone by but I never stopped searching for direction. Here it is in 2020 and now I see verses all coming true, like this cv thing in Isaiah 26:20. I also found many verses coming true in Daniel 11 truth. Then it dawned on me that from 11:21 on, they are all coming true – HE calls it the book of truth no less. What’s amazing is that many people (church) are making excuses for not “watching” which HE instructs us to do more than a dozen times. So, who would HE be appealing to in this late hour? The atheist – agnostic – heathen – anyone who’s curiosity is raised. Why would HE be generous to this bunch? “So HIS house will be full.”
Love your reply- we grew up fine with clear minds uncluttered by -” invented books-” that are- other peoples thinking..don’t shove your book in our faces- we choose & invent our own
Pastor Mel’s point is about God, not religion – two separates. Yes, religion is open to corruption, because it is of man’s doing, wheras God is pure.
Exactly, and religion has started near every war in history.
Religion? Really? Of all the people in Cairns you ought to know that religion was invented by the Romans to enact people control and 1500 years ago when the Romans realised a considerable section of the population was not buying the Christian myth they (the Romans) invented Islam and commissioned a Jesuit priest to write the Koran. The rest is history. Please spare us any more religion and stick to reporting on the current political situation.

Yawn. Why do these theists always make these stupid claims. I’m not angry. I’m saddened that people like the pastor are so afraid of dying.
Funny that when an atheist is in dire trouble, he asks God to help him.As the author says, God is inherent in all of us, deeper down than in some than others, but it’s there.
How can anyone say there is not a Higher Power? I look around every day and marvel at the perfection of nature…everything has a reason, a rhythm.
Perhaps if atheists took a few moments and really looked at the world around them ( not the manmade world, man has ruined that) but at the animals…. the fact that everything is so well organised….. that we breathe in oxygen supplied to us by the green world. In return we give that wonderful world carbon dioxide. And communists and Greens try to tell us carbon dioxide is a bad gas?
They are very narrow thinkers.Without green trees and plants we would not live.
Good article! The ego’s dogged attempts to deny God-intelligence, which is naturally a party to us all, is what manifests as all the problems of the world. In this way the majority subconsciously make-way for societies corrupt leaderships, being a management team for what we unwittingly call for, whereas embracement of God would instead be our solution. Control as means for removal of God is the agenda of all global tyranny.
The author Henry Miler said that God had forsaken us, so that we might realise that we ourselves are gods.He was an old wanker, and a letch, but God lives in all of us, so he was correct. God is good for everyone. Anyone who does not think so is seriously deluded, because we cannot place our good faith in Man alone. Gary
