Now the bit about Sarah Ferguson is a fair reflection of reality. Ferguson thinks Hillary Clinton is a good human being, and she supports Zelenski, so clearly she is both deranged and morally twisted. But the live export story was extremely complicated. Because it has never been exposed to public assessment before, let me do so now, excluding the extraneous side-issues of evidence collection and ethics thereof. All filming is like this, bullshit.
By 1980, it was clear in the Top End that buffalo will thrive where cattle starve. Historically, the cattle industry was profitable for three years out of seven. Two years out of seven, managers did not get paid (quote, Ray Fryer).
Legislation in 1968 meant Aboriginal ringers had to be paid award wages. While the value behind this decision was valid in the eastern states, it made no sense in the NT or Kimberly where employment was project-based; meaning ringers were employed for mustering and a few other seasonal tasks but were unemployed for the rest of the year. Very quickly, cattle sussed out that the planes could not land, and so they took to hiding in gullies in the scrub. 100% musters dropped to 70% and the industry was in the shit once again. Enter choppers, but this was $1000 per day overhead and cattle soon sussed them out too.
It was then that the veteran manager of Urapunga Station, Queenslander Ray Fryer added his voice to the buffalo producers pointing out the obvious, that the north should switch to buffalo, harvesting wild because the Germans were prepared to pay double the price of prime beef. The reason for this became clear to Aussies a decade later when mad cow disease became a world-wide threat.
Powerful interests opposed this, and the US-driven BBTEC programme generated a shootout of all buffalo and feral cattle. NZ farmers saw the trap and switched back to frozen meat, in which they now lead the world. Live export filled the gap but caused the closure of 150 abattoirs around Australia, costing some 250,000 jobs in freezing works and the hundreds of feeder industries and public services. Entire regions lost their populations. The economic cost to regional Australia was massive. Ang gross benefit to the live export industry was dwarfed by the destruction of regional Australia.
A few hundred factory farmers benefited, who are now poisoning Australia with antibiotics and rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) in feedlots, which has permanently injured two entire generations of children, and which continues today.
Traditional farmers are aghast at the sadistic practices of men who call themselves cattlemen, but are nothing more than ruthless factory owners with the civic morals of sociopaths.
Like all previous genuine cattlemen, I want live export ended, along with bulk ore exports. The world laughs at our stupidity.
