The ADF roaming Australian streets armed is a horrific situation. It is even worse if anybody knows for sure if they carry ammunition for those weapons, or have ammunition in those weapons.
When I was in the Army 1966/67 I seem to remember we had weapons in our trucks on way to Shoalwater Bay for an exercise but we had no ammunition or bolts. No ammunition the whole 3 months of that exercise. We never took weapons into the towns along the way when having leave.
While in Vietnam we never took weapons outside the camp areas while on leave. We were supposedly in a hostile country.
Yet it seems that in the eyes of today’s politicians and Army commanders the soldiers are not safe on Australian streets without being armed.
I cannot even see the point of uniformed and armed soldiers being on the street, except to alarm the public. Are they also being used to spy on the public?

I remember as a young boy who grew up on the streets of Sydney, the inner city army barracks used to feed us kids whenever they could; Randwick North, Randwick South and Paddington (East Sydney); We’d be let into the barracks to have a play around on the Jeeps, Tanks and Army Ducks (amphibious vehicles) and if anyone needed a blanket or the like, they got it; We didn’t get to hold the guns or any other weapon, but we were able to look at them and shown how they work; Sometimes we had to hide…i guess a lieutenant or other “badge” had come to inspect the barracks; Me thinks the Soldiers were all about us joining in the future……. Currajong is the village near the Beecroft Weapons Range.
