World leaders together with Heads of International Financial Institutions, Heads of United Nations agencies and other partners will convene at a high-level meeting organized by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 23 September 2022.
The Plenary meetings for the General Debate of the 77th Session runs from Tuesday 20 September to Saturday 24 September, and Monday 26 September 2022.

The 77th session of the General Assembly opened on 13 September under the theme, “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.”
News dated 14 September 2022, stated that the UN chief, Secretary-General, António Guterres, had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We had the opportunity to discuss the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and its possible expansion…We have discussed the obstacles that still exist in relation to the exports of Russian food and fertilizers.”
He said there was a danger of a “market crunch” if more Russian fertilizers are not able to reach countries in dire need for future crop production, adding that it was “absolutely essential” to remove obstacles to fertilizer exports.
He said the two leaders had also discussed the question of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and also the UN Fact-Finding Mission, which is looking into an incident at Olenivka on 29 July, which led to the death of 53 Ukrainian POWs, and injured dozens more.
The UN chief said President Putin had indicated the UN team would be given access to the area where the attack took place. “There will be no obstacle from the Russian side” to go wherever investigators choose to go, “and that is a very important aspect”, he added.
In the first plenary meeting of the 77th session of the UNGA, Csaba Kőrösi, the Hungarian diplomat currently serving as President of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, and previous Director of Environmental Sustainability in the Office of the President of Hungary, urged world leaders to respond to humanity’s most pressing challenges, including the war in Ukraine, by working together and building bridges across what are “deep divides” [13 September].
Csaba Kőrösi reminded delegates that the United Nations was created out of the ashes of war and destruction, with the intention of being “a well of solutions”.
“We will not be returning to the old normal. The only way to achieve better outcomes is to transform. The contours of the transformation we need are already known. The Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework, the Paris Agreement and Our Common Agenda, all point us in the right direction. What remains to be seen, is whether we will deliver”, he said.
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, concluded that the 77th General Assembly Session must be a moment of transformation, “for people and planet alike”.

The reason why Putin acted in Crimea in a resolute way was, I think, the Russian Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol and the overwhelming Russian population in Crimea who wanted to be reunited with Russia. Crimea was Russian since Catharine The Great made it a part of the Russian Empire in 1783.
If Putin was serious about Russia’s interests, he would have protected the pro-Russian government in Kiev in 2014 to make sure to have a Russian friendly, non-aligned Ukraine on her doorstep.
He would also have invaded the Donbass, Russian territory gifted by Lenin to Ukraine in 1922, in 2014 to stop the Ukrainian attacks on the Donbass and made it part of Russia again.
If Putin acted in Russia’s interests in 2014 this current “War” would not have happened.

I am certain that most Americans do not have a clue what transpired this week at the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (aka SCO). It is a clarion call, a defiant declaration, that the countries, which account for over half of the world’s population, are no longer going to defer to the United States. The attendees included Russia, China, India, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The speeches by Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping are especially noteworthy. Both countries put the United States on notice that the United States and NATO will be treated as a sponsor of terrorism because they supply weapons to Ukraine that are being used to attack civilian targets. You may accuse me of exaggerating because neither Putin nor Xi mention the United States or NATO by name. But the actions of the NATO allies in Ukraine are seen by both Russia and China as acts of terrorism. I am reprinting the salient portions of each speech below.
Russia and China also put the west on notice that Iran is no longer going to be treated as a pariah state. Iran is welcomed emphatically by both Putin and Xi as a member of the SCO. Going forward, this means that Iran will do business with all members of the SCO under the rubric of a new financial order being organized by Russia, China, India and Brazil.
I am sure this is jarring news to the western allies. They have enjoyed the luxury of the dominance of the U.S. Dollar as the international reserve currency. It was the Golden Rule at work–those with the gold make the rules. The United States faces a dilemma because it insists on levying international sanctions on any nation or leader who refuses to toe Washington’s line, but the blow back effects of those sanctions are savaging the European economies and will hurt America as well.
China and Russia now realize and affirm that the United States is no longer a reliable, trustworthy partner. They see the United States as a petulant child that, in the past, coerced others by throwing temper tantrums and launching ill-conceived, foolish foreign military operations.
Most important, but not said, the leaders of the SCO realize that Washington is leaderless. Biden is a demented buffoon. Putin demonstrated this in his press conference. At the end of WW2 it was said that 6 million Jews perished during the war. Four million of them were then said to have perished in Auschwitz alone. Over the years, until now the number perished in Auschwitz has been reduced by the Jews themselves from 4 million to around 1 million, a difference of 3 million.
