Victoria has delivered Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party its only seat in federal parliament, after UAP candidate Ralph Babet snared the final Victorian Senate seat almost a month after the election.

Victoria’s latest senator Ralph Babet (R) of the United Australia Party, with Craig Kelly Party President, is now a one hundred million dollar man thanks to party leader Clive Palmer. He was the only UAP member elected to Parliament. It defies belief that such a sum could be spent in advertising to return just one member.

The Australian Electoral Commission yesterday confirmed the final results for the six Senate vacancies in Victoria, after the distribution of preferences.

Mr Babet claimed the final spot ahead of candidates for the Legalise Cannabis Australia party and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.

The result also means Liberal candidate Greg Mirabella — husband of former federal minister Sophie Mirabella — misses out on a Senate seat.

The six elected senators for Victoria have now been confirmed as the Liberal Party’s Sarah Henderson, Linda White and Jana Stewart from Labor, the Nationals’ Bridget McKenzie, Lidia Thorpe from the Greens, and Mr Babet.
