Grandpa, an old successful businessman, when asked what he saw as the future of Australia said.
“My grandfather rode a horse, my father rode a push-bike, I ride a BMW, my son rides a Toyota Prius, my grandson rides a Tesla — but my great-grandson is going to have to ride a push-bike again.
We asked why? He replied —
“Hard times create strong men and women — strong men and women create easy times”.
“Easy times create weak men and women — weak men and women create difficult times”.
“Many will not understand that, but we have to raise warriors, not parasites”.
“Look around you — How many warriors do you see — And how many parasites?”
“Who cannot stand on their own feet and don’t want to?
“Who can work but won’t?”
“Who are too weak for normal robust discussion claiming bullying, discrimination, victimhood?”
“Who never learnt to think or work — and every day, have to be told what to think, do and act ?”
“The real BIG question is — How many of these do you see in Parliament?”
“Now see if you can find any warriors — Who are leaders, successful in their own right — And have ridden a pushbike?”

I have also noticed that generational cycle of strength/competence and weakness/incompetence as nearly all manual work has been mechanised or ‘offshored’ and a large part of the Australian workforce is in offices in high rise city buildings.
I am a recipient of Jobseeker but because I am 65 I am given the option of working for my Jobseeker payment. The required 15 hours per week voluntary work rounds out to about $20 per hour which I consider to be generous. My voluntary work is strenuous but I love it and I work 30 to 40 hours per week so I am earning around $8 to $10 per hour. Although I rely on that federal payment so I can pay my rent and bills and buy food for myself I don’t see myself as a parasite. I consider myself to be a federal government employee working for my community. Every cent of the money I receive immediately re-enters the economy, it is not sitting idle.
The jobs I trained for are all done by computers now so I am happy to be a voluntary labourer. I would be devastated if my payment was taken from me because some influential public decision makers considered that people who are receiving Jobseeker payments are parasites.
