Letter to the Editor

Last year Professor Charles Lieber(Wuhan) and 2 Chinese nationals were arrested on fraud and scientific espionage charges. China maintains a program called the “Thousand Talents Plan”, which is designed to bribe foreigners and convince them to divulge information to the Chinese, giving them a strategic technological advantage.

Charles Lieber has been working at Harvard on fibre-optic nanowire tech for the past 22 years, and with nanotech and nanoscale structures in general for even longer than that. All of his publications are still online:

Many of his papers describe using silicon nanowires as the basis of BCIs, or brain-computer interfaces.

Silicon nanowire transistors are extremely small, on the order of a few micrometers long by a few nanometers thick. They are small enough to be coated with HIV TAT peptides and slipped right through the membrane of a cell.

Once inside, they’re capable of reading signals from (and modulating the activity of) individual neurons. How does one power them if they’re inside cells and have no batteries, capacitors, or other power source? Simple. RF induction.

What device is capable of directing the required RF frequency directly into someone’s head? A phased-array beamforming antenna. What uses phased-array beamforming antennas? 5G wireless cell networks.
